Baby Crib Choices - It is Good to Be Round

When it comes to choosing a crib for your nursery safety should be the standard of choice. But do you need to compromise style in order to know that your child is protected? Fortunately, the answer is no. Educate yourself on the potential hazards associated with some cribs. This is especially important if you are purchasing or inheriting an older crib. Also, learn about the new style of cribs that is leading the way in design safety and style.

Regrettably, many parents are unaware of the potential hazards associated with certain crib styles. While you will want to do a lot of research on this subject you can start with some of the major points.

Removable parts that can lead to choking are a common hazard with cribs. Be sure to inspect the crib for any removable knobs, or screws. This becomes even more important if the crib is not brand new since it may have pieces that have aged and come apart or are missing.

Head trappings between spindles are also a concern. According to JMPA, crib spindles should be no more then 2 3/8 inches apart and should not be loose. There should be no cutout areas along the headboard and footboard where the baby can get trapped.

Finally be sure to only use a crib that meets Federal and ASTM standards. Also be sure it has the JPMA Certification Seal.

Round cribs are an untraditional style that is becoming more and more popular in the marketplace. One brand, Little Miss Liberty, exceeds the standard of safety and is the only authentic patented round crib made in the USA.

Some of the safety features offered with this crib are that it has no corners or concussion points. If a child pulls themselves up and falls down they fall safely onto the mattress. The spindles exceed government standards, removing the risk of entrapment. The spindles are countersunk and anchored, constructed of North American hardwoods, and finished with non-toxic paint or stains.

The Dura Crib, offered by Little Miss Liberty, is molded of high impact poly plastic components and has a durable finish that will not peel or blister.

Most important, when tested by U.S. Testing Laboratories, these cribs were found to exceed all JMPA and government requirements of the Consumer Product Safety Commission. All this and they are one of the top choices of designers and celebrities.

You and your baby will sleep better if you educate yourself before purchasing a crib and take advantage of all the information and options available.
